PENNSYLVANIA AMERICAN WATER ANNOUNCES NEW GENERAL COUNSEL HERSHEY, Pa. (September 29, 2015) - Pennsylvania American Water announced today the appointment of Andrew L. Swope to the position of general counsel, vice present and secretary. In addition, Swope serves as general counsel of American Water's Mid-Atlantic Division, which comprises Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia.


In this role, Swope will provide legal counsel and representation for Pennsylvania American Water, as well as direct and oversee the strategic and day-to-day legal services that support American Water's state- regulated operations in the Mid-Atlantic region.


Prior to joining Pennsylvania American Water, Swope was a partner in the Harrisburg office of K&L Gates LLP, one of the nation's 10 largest law firms. He served in K&L's energy practice group, where he handled a wide array of matters ranging from commercial contracts and disputes to civil litigation involving project owners and contractors, construction and engineering, environmental compliance and real estate issues.


Swope, a resident of Mechanicsburg, is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He has lectured on a variety of legal issues and authored a number of articles. He graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., and earned his law degree from Widener University in Wilmington, De.
