NATIONAL WATER POLICY WEBINAR TO FEATURE PRESIDENT OF PENNSYLVANIA AMERICAN WATER

AND MAYOR OF MCKEESPORT

MCMURRAY, Pa. (February 19, 2018) - Pennsylvania American Water announced today that Pennsylvania American Water President Jeffrey L. McIntyre will be joined by Mayor Michael Cherepko of McKeesport, for the One Water for America Policy Framework Webinar 4: Blend Public and Private Expertise and Investment to Address Water Infrastructure Needs on Wednesday, February 21 from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm.

According to the U.S. Water Alliance, the coalition hosting the webinar, public-private partnerships have been in practice for generations. For years, many publicly owned utilities have worked with private companies on planning, design, project delivery, operations, maintenance, and management. In addition, private water utilities account for about 15 percent of the U.S. water market. But public-private partnerships can be a mystery to the unfamiliar, and the webinar is intended to provide a greater understanding on how best to blend public and private resources for positive outcomes.

McIntyre and Cherepko were selected to speak to this subject based on their experience with Pennsylvania American Water's acquisition of the wastewater system assets of the Municipal Authority of the City of McKeesport for approximately $159 million. The transaction, which closed in December 2017, marked the first acquisition completed under Pennsylvania's Act 12 of 2016, which allows municipalities to sell water and wastewater systems for a price based on the fair market value of the system.
