NEW $10.5 MILLION PIPELINE TO EXTEND PENNSYLVANIA AMERICAN WATER SERVICE TO SHENANGO TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS SHENANGO TOWNSHIP, Pa. (August 14, 2017) - Pennsylvania American Water announced today the start of construction to install new water lines to the Castlewood area of Shenango Township, Lawrence County, to provide public water service and fire protection.

The approximately $10.5 million pipeline is funded by Pennsylvania American Water, which partnered with Shenango Township officials, the New Castle Sanitation Authority (NCSA), and local property owners to make the project possible.

The 19-mile water line project will provide service to more than 700 households, and it will be constructed in tandem with the extension of sanitary sewer service by the NCSA. The water line project also includes the construction of a 300,000-gallon storage tank, pressure-reducing station and more than 100 fire hydrants.

"This project is a true public-private partnership that will bring much needed water and wastewater service and improved fire protection to Castlewood, while helping reduce expense by spreading the restoration costs over both projects," said Toni Colavecchia, senior manager of operations for Pennsylvania American Water's Northwest District.

Starting August 21, Pennsylvania American Water's contractor Graziani Construction will begin installing the ductile iron pipe along at PA Route 65, between Kittery Ridge Drive and Gardner Stop Road. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.

Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Pennsylvania American Water reminds motorists traveling through construction zones to obey work zone speed limits, focus on the road and discontinue the use of cell phones.
