American Water has named Deborah Dewey president of Indiana American Water and Michigan American Water effective June 20, 2016. Dewey is replacing Deron Allen, who has decided to leave American Water.

Dewey most recently served as the vice president of Operations for Indiana American Water, where she led operations that provide reliable water services to more than 1.2 million people in Indiana. In her new role, Dewey will work to strengthen customer, regulatory and local government relationships while driving operational and financial results.

“We are pleased that Deborah will take on this new role at American Water,” said Walter Lynch, chief operating officer of American Water. “She brings more than 30 years of experience and knowledge to this position with executive level experience in the manufacturing, service and utility fields. I look forward to the leadership she will bring to Indiana American Water and Michigan American Water.”

Prior to joining Indiana American Water, Dewey served as president of the Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville, which created attraction, retention and incubation projects that led to more than 3,200 jobs in Indiana.

Dewey also served as president of Western Kentucky Energy/LG & E, where she led 500 employees as the company transitioned from a nonprofit rural electric cooperative to an unregulated generation subsidiary of an investor-owned corporation.

Additionally, Dewey has owned and managed a company that installed municipal water system infrastructure and has provided independent consulting services in the areas of power generation, strategic planning and cost optimization.

Dewey started her career at Westinghouse Electric Corp., where she was involved in strategic planning and field technology services. She also served as manufacturing and product general manager at General Electric Corp., where she led more than 1,100 employees.

Dewey earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Florida Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Central Florida.
