New Jersey American Water Investing $500,000 in Bernardsville SHORT HILLS, N.J. (Aug. 17, 2017) -New Jersey American Water will be investing approximately

$500,000 in new water mains in its service area of Bernardsville. The 1,760 feet of aging 6-inch main that was installed in the 1930s will be replaced with new 12-inch ductile iron main along Mt. Airy Road (from South Street to Pill Hill Road). Customers in this area should experience increased water flows for residences and fire protection, and continued improvement in reliability.

The project also includes replacing fire hydrants and utility-owned service lines along the pipeline route. As part of this improvement project, a meter pit will be installed within the property owner's right of way curbside area. After installation, all that will be visible is a 15-inch circular cover that will be flush with the ground. Once the meter pits are installed, and the project is complete, residents will be contacted to set up an appointment to move the meter from inside the property to the meter pit, which will take approximately 20- 30 minutes. By doing this, access into the home to read, inspect, repair or replace the water meter will no longer be required in the future. There is no cost to the owner to have this work performed.

Weather permitting, New Jersey American Water's contractor, Vollers Excavating & Construction, will begin mid-August and be completed in two months. Work hours will be at night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Friday. Final street restoration will be completed in the fall of 2017.

New Jersey American Water is committed to the safety and advises pedestrians and drivers to please take caution in the vicinity of work sites.

This water main improvement is part of New Jersey American Water's multimillion-dollar program to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure in the state that is reaching the end of its useful life. New Jersey American Water has recently published an interactive Infrastructure Upgrade Map on its website to share details about its pipeline renewal projects, including this one in Fanwood.
