West Virginia American Water Begins $1 Million System Improvement along Big Tyler Road in Cross Lanes Cross Lanes, W.Va. (June 26, 2017) - West Virginia American Water announced today that it is beginning a large water infrastructure improvement project this week in Cross Lanes. The approximately $1 million project will replace 7,500 feet of six-inch ductile iron water lines dating back to the 1940s with new eight-inch PVC lines. The project will take place along Big Tyler Road from Waycross Drive to Rocky Fork Road. Upon completion, the upgrade will improve service reliability and water flows to customers in the area.

"This project demonstrates our commitment to provide high quality, reliable water service to our Cross Lanes customers and represents one of the $29 million in system-wide upgrades we are making in 2017," said West Virginia American Water President Brian Bruce. "Thanks to our Distribution System Improvement program, we have dramatically accelerated our infrastructure replacement that will result in more than 34 miles of water main being replaced throughout our system this year."

Construction activities will take place on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Temporary changes to traffic patterns are expected during construction, and flaggers will direct local traffic through construction zones while sections of Big Tyler Road are restricted to one lane. Motorists are asked to use caution when passing through work zones and may want to consider alternate routes during construction.

The project will be completed by qualified pipeline contractor, CJ Hughes, and should be complete by December, weather permitting. During construction, customers may experience temporary water service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower than normal water pressure. West Virginia American Water apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this may cause and will work to minimize disruptions.

In an effort to improve communication about water system upgrades to customers, West Virginia American Water recently launched its 2017 Infrastructure Upgrade StoryMap - a user-friendly, easily accessible online map that allows customers to view details about water main replacement projects and other capital investments as they are under construction and completed.
