New Jersey American Water is investing nearly $4.2 million in new water mains in its service areas in North Plainfield and Cranford. The approximate 12,430 feet of aging water mains has reached the end of its useful life and will be replaced with ductile iron pipes. In addition, New Jersey American Water will also be installing 870 feet of new water main on Parkview Avenue in North Plainfield.

New Jersey American Water will be working along the following streets:

In North Plainfield:

  • Greenbrook Road, from West End Avenue to Rock Avenue
  • Rock Ave, from Greenbrook Road to Anna Place
  • West End Avenue, from Route 22 to Greenbrook Road
  • Norwood Avenue, from Mountain Avenue to Brook Avenue
  • Parkview Avenue, from Albert Street to Rockview Avenue

In Cranford:

  • West Lincoln Avenue, from South Avenue to Retford Avenue
  • Elmora Avenue, from Dunham Avenue to dead end

With the installation of the new water mains, New Jersey American Water customers should experience increased water flows, as well as continued reliable water service and fire protection. These water main improvements are part of New Jersey American Water’s multimillion-dollar program to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that is reaching the end of its useful life in more than 100 communities across the state. These projects also contribute to our communities’ economic health by providing high quality jobs.

Weather permitting, construction in North Plainfield is expected to be completed by the end of July and final street restoration will be completed in the fall of 2017. Construction in Cranford will be completed by the end of April/early May and final street restoration will be completed in late spring of 2017.

“These projects demonstrate the company’s support and commitment to provide safe, reliable water and wastewater services to our customers,” said Bob Schaefer, Senior Director of Operations, Central Region. “Once completed, water flows for both residences and fire protection will be increased, as well as continued improvement in reliability.”
