Genoa, July 9th 2015

We hereby announce that the sixth edition of Ansaldo STS's annual Sustainability Report for the year 2014 has been made available to the public on the Company's website today.

The 2014 edition, which was drawn up in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Guidelines version 3.1, includes some important directions of the new G4 guidelines.

The report was audited (so-called Limited Assurance) by the auditing company KPMG, achieving the highest rating for sustainability reporting and transparency, A+.

The 2014 Report includes new features such as materiality analysis reached thanks to the direct involvements of stakeholders. The opportunities and potential risks linked to sustainability initiatives are reported in this edition, as well as a new mapping and reporting of engagement activities.

"Ansaldo STS has always committed itself to creating value for its clients, shareholders and employees, as well as for the communities we live in: points of view that have been and always will be a guiding compass for our management team," said Ansaldo STS's CEO and Managing Director, Mr Stefano Siragusa. "With our 2014 Sustainability Report, we would like to reiterate our conviction that we are creating a better world for future generations. After six years of reporting on sustainability, we look back on the past with pride and to the future with faith."

The sustainability Committee, operating in Ansaldo STS since 2010, sets out relevant strategic policies, commitments and projects; it has decided to continue to expand the content of this Report, involving the stakeholders in the process. To thank those who participated to the initiative, the Committee launched the initiative called: 'Ansaldo STS's Forest Keeps Growing'.

To balance the CO2 emissions 2014 generated through the reporting and drafting activities for the Sustainability Report's, 400 trees will be planted in Campania (by a cooperative, Libera Terra, on the slopes of Vesuvius) and in Haiti (in an AVSI Foundation project in the Chantal South Department).
The trees will be donated to the first 400 people who will download the 2014 Sustainability Report from Ansaldo STS's website. Each tree has been photographed and geo-located, so that it can always be viewed online. Each owner will receive a personal code to monitor the growth of the tree and the whole Ansaldo STS forest over time.

Ansaldo STS is part of the UN Global Compact and a Founding and Promoting Partner of the Global Compact Network Italy Foundation. It is also part of the Carbon Disclosure Project and the UNIFE Sustainable Transport Committee. The Company has a section on its website dedicated to sustainability, where it also publishes an online version of the Report called "Integrated Review" aimed at providing an information platform that integrates economic, social and environment points of view.

The culture of sustainability produces concrete results. In 2014 we completed and delivered 18 projects, systems and railway lines all over the world, approximately 650km of lines and over 300 vehicles equipped with our technology. All said projects were carried out with sustainability in mind, as demonstrated by results such as:

  • 25% reduction in the production of greenhouse gases since 2012;
  • Energy consumed by Italian sites coming entirely from renewable sources;
  • 33% increase in training hours on environment, health and safety;
  • 2nd place among Italian industrial companies in the 2014 Carbon Disclosure Project rating;
  • Introduction of sustainability criteria in the supplier qualification process.
