It is with great sadness that the Anthem Board of Directors announces the death of Board member John H. Short who was tragically killed on April 10 in an aircraft accident in western Idaho.

“John served our Board with great commitment. He leaves a legacy of incredible business acumen, strategy formulation skills, and passion for business excellence recognized by all of us, as fellow colleagues who came to know him for his inquisitive nature and creative thinking,” said Joseph Swedish, president and chief executive officer of Anthem. “To me, John was an excellent advisor who brought his deep knowledge of operational performance to a variety of issues that have been critical to the transformation of our company. He was both a colleague and a friend and he will be sorely missed.”

As former CEO of RehabCare Group, acquired by Kindred Health Care, John Short brought to the Anthem Board deep insight and knowledge of the health care sector, with experience spanning over four decades. He had been an Anthem Board member since September of 2013.
