Media Statement

APA Group, Australia's largest gas infrastructure business, today welcomed the official opening of the newly constructed Eastern Goldfields Pipeline (EGP) by WA Mines and Petroleum Minister, the Hon Bill Marmion.

The 293 kilometre EGP is 100 per cent owned by APA and extends its interconnected Goldfields Gas System to almost 1,800 kilometres. It was completed to scope ahead of schedule in December 2015, just nine months after construction commenced.

Speaking at the ceremonial event at Tropicana Gold Mine, APA Managing Director Mick McCormack paid tribute to the focus and commitment of all parties involved in bringing the project from concept to reality.

'This is a special day for APA as the opening of a new pipeline that will support growth in the communities it services is not an everyday occurrence,' Mr McCormack said.
'As an engineering project the EGP is a great success story that exceeded all production and safety targets, an achievement we take pride in.

'It is also a shining example of what can be done when industry partners, a progressive government and supportive local authorities and communities collaborate so effectively.

'We are delighted to have delivered on our gas transportation commitments to AngloGold Ashanti which underpinned development of the EGP and construction links to Sunrise Dam and Tropicana mines.

'As a business that has been in WA since its listing in 2000, APA looks forward to the economic and environmental benefits the pipeline will bring to the communities and new industry participants in the Goldfields region for many years to come.'

Mr McCormack acknowledged the integral roles played by AngloGold Ashanti and the Department of Mines and Petroleum in the development of the EGP.

He further thanked all stakeholders who played a significant role in helping APA's team deliver a successful project, including the WA Government and Minister Marmion, power station owners Energy Developments Limited and Kalgoorlie Power Systems, local mining companies, the Shire of Laverton and the local community members who provided services during construction.
