ARBUTHNOT BANKING GROUP APPOINTS HEAD OF LEGAL AFFAIRS

Arbuthnot Banking Group PLC has appointed Alan Karter as its Head of Legal Affairs.  This is a new position and Alan's considerable experience in both corporate and financial legal matters will complement the existing risk and compliance resources of the Group.

Biographical details

Until the end of 2011, Alan was a partner in London in the corporate group at Simmons & Simmons, the international law firm.  He led the Simmons & Simmons team advising Secure Trust Bank and Arbuthnot Banking Group on the AIM IPO of Secure Trust Bank that completed successfully in November 2011.

Alan trained and qualified as a Scottish solicitor before moving to London in 1980. He is also qualified as an English solicitor. He joined Simmons & Simmons in 1987 from Freshfields. Between 2001 and 2005 Alan was based in the Simmons & Simmons Milan office.

Alan has a broad experience of corporate and financial legal matters with a particular knowledge of working with financial institutions. He has advised listed companies, banks and other financial institutions including those dealing with consumers on a range of matters such as joint ventures, M& A, regulatory matters and capital raising.

In 2011 Alan advised the specialist advisers to the House of Commons Treasury Select Committee in relation to the Report by the FSA on The Royal Bank of Scotland. Alan has also been a member of the CBI Companies Committee.
