AIX-EN-PROVENCE, France--Areva SA (>> AREVA) Chief Executive Luc Oursel said the French state-controlled nuclear energy company placed a bid with China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Company for joint-venture Horizon, confirming media reports last month.
"We will participate in the research of the British government to make this project happen, and we will likely do it with the Chinese," Mr. Oursel said on the sidelines of an economic conference in Aix-en-Provence in Southern France.
"Within the end of the year, the seller along with the British government, will disclose their decision and the team that will take over this project," he added. The UK government is supporting the research led by the venture.
Horizon is a joint-venture between German groups E.ON (>> E.ON AG) and RWE (>> RWE AG).
Areva also hopes to finalize a deal this year to build two third generation pressurized water reactors, or European Pressurized Reactors, in India after more than two years of talks, Mr. Oursel said.
