Analyst Update: Record Financial Results, and Purchase Deals

The U.S. stocks closed higher on Friday with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 closing at record highs after news that Greece and its Eurozone creditors have officially reached a four-month extension agreement of Greece's bailout package. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 154.67 points, or 0.86%, to 18140.44. The S&P 500 rose 12.85 points, or 0.61%, to 2110.30, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 31.27 points, or 0.63%, to 4955.97. The rally was seen in European markets as well. As per the Markit Economics report, its Composite Purchasing Managers Output Index (PMI) for the 19 nation single currency bloc jumped to 53.5 points from 52.6 in January. The report added that Euro zone business activity hit a seven month high in February. Asian stocks mostly closed higher on Friday with Japanese stocks rising to a fresh 15-year high, lifted by a weaker yen as US dollar was on the front foot again based on upbeat US data.

An article on WSJ dated February 20, 2015, reported that subprime lender Springleaf Holdings Inc. (Springleaf) is in exclusive talks to buy Citigroup Inc.'s One Main Financial. Springleaf has agreed to pay more than $4 billion for the Baltimore-based subprime lender, and a deal could be finalized within the next two weeks, said a person familiar with the matter. Earlier on Friday, Reuters reported that Springleaf was in advanced talks to buy OneMain, which effected a spike in Springleaf shares that witnessed an intra-day range of $33.68 - $38.90, finally finishing the day nearly 13% higher at $38.57. Shares of AMN Healthcare Services Inc. (AMN) closed up 11.60% on Friday on heavy trading volumes after the Company beat analysts' estimates for earnings in the fourth quarter. AMN reported adjusted earnings of 21 cents a share for the quarter, above Zacks analysts' estimates of 18 cents a share. Revenue grew 12% YoY to $279.6 million for the quarter, topping analysts' estimates of $267.1 million. Mohawk Industries, Inc.'s (Mohawk Industries) shares jumped 6.71% on Friday, a day after the Company reported strong fourth quarter and full-year 2014 results. Adjusted EPS of $2.27, up 27% YoY, beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.22 by 2.3% and was the highest Q4 adjusted EPS in the Company's history. Shares of Newmont Mining Corporation (Newmont Mining) gained 4.58% to end Friday's trading at $25.58, on volume of 13.56 million shares, following reports of stronger than expected Q4 2014 revenue and adjusted earnings numbers, released a day earlier. Additionally, the Company also reported notable gold reserves of 82.2 million ounces and copper reserves of 7.9 billion pounds for 2014. Ariad Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ARIAD) narrowed its net loss to $0.03 per diluted share in Q4 2014 from a net loss of $0.40 per diluted share in Q4 2013.
