Arrow Electronics, Inc., (NYSE:ARW) today announced that it has certified its São Paulo, Brazil, facility to several quality and environmental industry standards for electronics asset disposition. It is the first South American location certified to the R2 Responsible Recycling standard.

In addition to R2, the facility holds the following certifications:

  • Recycling Industry Operating Standard
  • Occupational Health and Safety Advisory Services 18001
  • International Organization for Standardization, standards 9001 and 14001

“Arrow is pleased to expand our support for customers in South America by providing them with the peace of mind of knowing their electronic assets are being processed to some of the most rigorous standards in the industry,” said Tim Kolbus, vice president of global logistics services for Arrow’s value recovery business. “Given our global leadership in electronics asset disposition, we are pleased to be leading the industry in extending certifications to new markets around the world.”

Arrow has served the Brazil market since 1971 and opened the now-certified Brazil facility in 2013 at Rua Ado Benatti, 20, São Paulo. The site provides secure and environmentally responsible asset recovery, data sanitization, testing and screening, recycling, remarketing, service parts management, and product returns management services for a wide range of electronic equipment. In addition, Arrow offers design and manufacturing services for original equipment manufacturing solutions ranging from system integration and hardware solution design to custom packaging and diagnostic and functional testing.

“We are very proud of this achievement,” said Marcello Cairolli, managing director and country manager for Arrow’s value recovery business in Brazil. “Recently, Brazil approved new regulations regarding electronic waste treatment and disposition. Being the first to achieve R2-certification puts Arrow in an advanced position to not only meet but also exceed Brazilian regulations and deliver best-in-class solutions in reverse logistics to our customers.”

“We are extremely pleased with the leadership that Arrow has shown as the first R2-certified facility in South America. The use of personal electronic devices is rapidly increasing around the world, and the need for safe and sustainable recycling facilities to meet the growing recycling challenge has never been greater,” said John Lingelbach, executive director of R2 Solutions. “Arrow’s newly certified facility in São Paulo is a tremendous development for the people of South America and the environment. We congratulate Arrow on this very important achievement.”
