An influential group of MPs says that the NHS and local government haven't been given the resources they need to achieve their vision for NHS transformation.

The Health and Social Care Select Committee's inquiry into integrated care calls for 'adequate investment, support and time to embark on the scale of transformation' outlined by Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships (STPs). It also notes that the capital funding available falls short of the amounts STPs are calling for.

In our evidence to the inquiry, we flagged the need for support to STPs through their governance, strategic estates skills and financial autonomy - so that they can progress estates planning more quickly and effectively. This would help to ensure that improvements to primary care premises are delivered swiftly, realising the benefits as soon as possible for patients and NHS staff.

We also raised the unique opportunity of STPs, as local blueprints, to align local healthcare infrastructure requirements with masterplanning for new homes and growing communities.

Without due consideration of the buildings and spaces required to support general practice and new models of care in future, plans for integrated care may be prevented from reaching their full potential.
