Astronics Test Systems Introduces World's First PXIe Rubidium

New test instrument to be offered in collaboration with National Instruments

EAST AURORA, N.Y., August 1, 2016 - Astronics Test Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Astronics Corporation (NASDAQ: ATRO), today announced the introduction of a new Rubidium/GPS Frequency Standard Test Instrument in collaboration with National Instruments ("NI"). The new Astronics PXIe-3352 is the world's first PXI rubidium and combines a rubidium oscillator with a GPS receiver into a single, high precision instrument.

The PXIe-3352 will be the second product developed from Astronics' collaboration with NI, announced in November 2015, to revitalize legacy test systems. In development now, the new PXIe-3352 is expected to be available later this year.

"This product introduction demonstrates the commitment of Astronics and NI to produce a new line of PXI test instruments with advanced functionality for tomorrow's mission critical systems," commented Steve Fairbanks, Sr. Director of Products and Instruments for Astronics Test Systems. "The PXIe-3352 is especially exciting for Astronics and NI because it is truly a breakthrough product in the automated test space."

Astronics Test Systems' new PXIe-3352 Rubidium/GPS Frequency Standard Test Instrument delivers high precision and high resolution

"The Astronics PXIe-3352 is a perfect example of how Astronics Test Systems and NI are not only committed to providing a migration path for legacy VXI-based aerospace and defense ATE systems, but are also committed to expanding the capability of the PXI platform," said Reggie Rector, Principal Product Manager at NI. "With accuracy in the parts per trillion, the rubidium source is a great addition to our timing and synchronization portfolio."

A Precise Solution

As the first test instrument to combine a PXI rubidium source with GPS assist technology, the new PXIe- 3352 will be well-suited for use in a variety of commercial and military applications. The PXIe-3352 is used in either a PXI hybrid or PXI Express slot in a PXI mainframe to provide high precision time and frequency accuracy for measurement equipment. Useful for telecommunications timing, calibration and metrology, and RF subsystems, the PXIe-3352 can be disciplined with GPS satellites for stability and improved accuracy.

Key features include:

  • Long-term stability with GPS assist

  • High system density due to dual width PXI Express module approach
