• LAUNCH OF THE NEW AV1 CODEC, INTEGRATED INTO TITAN
  • INTEGRATION OF A NEW SECURITY STANDARD IN TITAN AND KYRION
  • TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION AWARD FOR THE “CONVERGENCE TV” PROJECT

ATEME (ISIN: FR0011992700), the emerging leader of video delivery, recently attended the industry's leading trade show, NAB 2018, which took place in Las Vegas from 7-12 April. It used this opportunity to make three major announcements, demonstrating its continued technological progress and commitment to setting future standards.

Michel Artières, ATEME Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, made the following comments: "Today, we are witnessing consistently strong demand in the video market for optimized solutions in terms of bandwidth cost, while protecting content, combating piracy and illegal downloads, and responding to the use of new multi-screen and connected TVs (UHD/4K).

Through its involvement in developing royalty-free codecs and their integration within its solutions, ATEME presents real financial benefits for operators, while enhancing end user experience by offering excellent image quality and a choice between different modes of video consumption, on all types of screens."

TITAN, the first solution to integrate the new AV1 codec

At NAB 2018, ATEME presented a preview of the AV1 codec, now integrated into its TITAN video compression solution.

Thanks to this codec, developed by the Alliance for Open Media (of which ATEME is a member) and designed for video streaming over the internet and IP networks, operators (cable, satellite, telecoms, terrestrial and OTT) can now deploy a royalty-free solution that optimize bandwidth usage (high quality video at very low bit rates), resulting in significant operational savings.

Security stepped up thanks to the integration of BISS-CA

ATEME also announced the integration of the BISS-CA solution into its TITAN and Kyrion products, in order to strengthen live content security. This new future standard helps combat piracy. Built on open specifications enabling greater flexibility in the processing chain, BISS-CA was developed by the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) technology and innovation teams, in cooperation with key industry players such as ATEME.

ATEME and BISS-CA's high video quality at low bit rates enables ATEME's partners to continue reducing their OPEX.

The "Convergence TV" project receives the NAB Technology Innovation Award

ATEME is actively involved in the collaborative "Convergence TV" project, alongside world-class industry partners. The project received the Technology Innovation Award at NAB on April 9 this year.

The main goal of the project is to advance hybrid delivery of advanced TV services, using the broadcast path (DTT) as the primary network and broadband paths (OTT/IP/internet) to enhance the quality of the experience, immersion and interactivity of its services. The project is based on the ATSC 3.0, the new standard for the next generation of the terrestrial digital broadcasting system in the United States and Korea.

The demonstration given at NAB highlighted one of the ATSC 3.0 system's key features: the native hybrid and IP delivery mechanism. In cooperation with the Convergence TV consortium, ATEME is therefore the first player to have applied this standard.
