NASHVILLE, Tenn., Jan. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T has announced that the company will hire 145 employees for newly-created call center, retail and technician positions in Tennessee. Of those jobs, more than 120 are newly-created positions in those fields.

AT&T created more than 300 new jobs - and filled nearly 800 jobs in Tennessee in 2014. Further, the company has hired more than 26,000 people across the U.S. during that same period.

Much of the hiring has been spurred by AT&T's Project Velocity IP (VIP). Project VIP is an investment plan to expand and enhance IP broadband networks to support customer's growing desire for mobile, ultra-fast and reliable access to everything on the Internet, particularly video.

"These jobs are a testament to the tremendous work that is being done by Governor Haslam, Lt. Gov. Ramsey, Speaker Harwell and all of our leaders in state government who are committed to pro-business policies that allow Tennessee's companies to be successful," said Catherine Glover, President of the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce & Industry. "The decision to continue bringing new jobs here, even as the industry goes through unprecedented technological change, sends a strong message about the caliber of our workforce and Tennessee's reputation as a great state for business."

"As we've continued to invest in our network and expand our customer base in Tennessee, we've also remained committed to providing excellent customer service," said Joelle Phillips, president of AT&T Tennessee. "From connected cars to a connected home, and from wearable technology to mobile Internet, these are exciting times for us, and we certainly thank Governor Haslam and the members of the Tennessee General Assembly who have worked to create an environment where we can continue to invest with confidence and create job opportunities for hard working Tennesseans."

AT&T jobs are among the best in the world and include competitive wages and benefits which provide security and value to AT&T employees, retirees and their dependents. AT&T currently employs more than 5,600 employees throughout Tennessee and is constantly hiring new talent. AT&T also offers numerous opportunities for professional development and education. AT&T is committed to diversity and veteran recruiting.
