Auckland Airport has announced that its Board has unanimously endorsed the nomination of Dr Patrick Strange to stand for election as an independent non-executive director at its 2015 annual meeting.

Sir Henry van der Heyden, Auckland Airport's chair, says the endorsement follows an extensive search.

"Patrick is currently Chair of Chorus Limited and a director of WorkSafe New Zealand, Mighty River Power and NZX Limited. He is also on the joint board of Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy and Essential Energy, Australia. Patrick has spent 30 years working as a senior executive and director in both private and listed companies. During his more than six years as Chief Executive of Transpower New Zealand Limited, Patrick oversaw its $3.8 billion investment in the National Grid. He lives in Matapouri, Northland."

Sir Henry says, "Patrick's significant experience in New Zealand governance and infrastructure - including his involvement in workplace health and safety - would greatly assist the Board, especially as it continues to focus on the implementation of the 30-year vision to build the airport of the future."

Dr Strange says he is pleased to have his nomination endorsed by the Board of Auckland Airport.

"I am honoured to have been nominated for the Board of Auckland Airport and I want to thank directors for their endorsement. If elected by shareholders at the annual meeting, I would look forward to contributing my skills and experience to help the company further grow New Zealand travel, trade and tourism," says Dr Strange.

The Board will recommend to shareholders the appointment of Dr Strange at the company's annual meeting at 10.00am on Thursday, 22 October 2015 at the Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau, Auckland.
