As well as being listed in Australia's Top 100 Most Influential Engineers list for four of the past six years, Engineers Australia also named Zimi Queensland Professional Engineer of the Year in 2013. His contributions to the industry have also been acknowledged by Queensland University of Technology who in 2008 named him Alumnus of Year, and in 2009 he was awarded the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy's Institute Medal.
