Air Marathon for a Good Cause: Blood Drive across 5 Russian Cities from September 23 to October 11

The Air Marathon for a Good Cause, a five city blood drive initiated by LG Electronics was launched today. The social project in support of the large-scale blood and blood components donation promotional programme developed by Ministry of Healthcare of Russian Federation and Federal Biomedical Agency will travel through five cities of Siberia and Ural from September 23 to October 11. This project is organized by LG Electronics, UTair and Eldorado, a long-term LG partner in the consumer electronics business and social projects. UTair aircraft and participants will visit Irkutsk, Tyumen, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk and Omsk where UTair and Eldorado employees and members of the state sponsored Run after Me project for youth will take part in Donor Days organized by the Ministry of Healthcare and the Federal Biomedical Agency. This large-scale social initiative also has support from famed Russian bobsledder Alexander Zubkov, a two-time 2014 Olympic Champion, a world champion and a four-time Europe champion. Tatyana Shakhnes, PR Director at LG Electronics Russia and a member of Coordination Centre for Donation in the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, will give a talk on the importance of corporate volunteering in blood drives at universities and colleges at every city of the Air Marathon. LG has already held similar talks promoting blood donation at educational centers in 22 cities across Russia.

The eighteen day long Air Marathon for a Good Cause was created to support and develop corporate blood donation, to promote the importance of socially responsible business and to unite several of Russians largest corporations with the goal of accomplishing a highly visible mission with a broad impact. The initiative is also extending the geography of blood donation and developing public service ideas and health education among youth. The Air Marathon for a Good Cause is a successor of such projects as the Innovations and Good Deeds on Rails and the Technology for a Good Cause Marathon , also multi-city events in which Eldorado employees helped run several donation events organized by the Russian Ministry of Healthcare and the Federal Biomedical Agency and initiated by LG Electronics.

"The formation of a culture of corporate donation has been a huge contribution to development of massive scale voluntary blood donation and it's setting an example of government and business successfully cooperating to achieve social goals," said Federal Biomedical Agency Administrator Vladimir Uiba. "The issue of putting socially responsible business ideals into practice is becoming more and more important every year, and this event will not only set an example for other companies on the market, but also send an important message to the corporate community - that the essence of blood donation is a genuine urge to help your neighbors."

From September 23 to October 11 UTair Aviation aircraft will fly participants of the Air Marathon for a Good Cause to visit Irkutsk (September 25-26), Tyumen (September 29-30), Yekaterinburg (October 1), Novosibirsk (October 6-7), and Omsk (October 9-10). As a part of the tradition, Russian sportsmen will serve as blood drive ambassadors of a healthy lifestyle. Over the last five years the blood drive movement has attracted such prominent Russian sportsmen and celebrities as Konstantin Dzu, Alexei Nemov, Tatyana Navka, Svetlana Khorkina, Irina Tchachina, Svetlana Masterkova, Natalya Ragozina, Ruslan Nigmatullin, Dmitry Sautin, Alexei Yagudin, Maria Petrova, Alexei Tikhonov, Edgard Zapashny, Dmitry Malikov and many others.

"Serving Russian society is one of the primary goals of LG Electronics social policy in Russia," said LG Electronics Russia President Mr. Dae Hyeon Song. "The Air Marathon for a Good Cause is another step in this direction, a large-scale event aimed at drawing attention to the importance of blood donation among both the broader public and companies. Here at LG we are convinced that large companies uniting in a desire to help people are capable of offering significant support to regular blood donation." This is why the support from the employees of LG partners, UTair Airlines and Eldorado, is such an important detail of this blood drive marathon.

"UTair is proud to participate in and support the Air Marathon for a Good Cause," said UTair General Director Andrey Martirosov. "UTair aircraft will fly all event participants between five cities in the airline's network with comfort and speed.  We're glad that over the years our company has been of service to the community by participating in various social projects. This is, for us, an important mission."

Since LG Electronics partnered with the Russian Ministry of Healthcare and the Federal Biomedical Agency in the large-scale blood and blood components donation promotional programme in 2009, a total of 62 Donor Days have been organized and 25% of LG Electronics employees have become blood donors. In 2012 the donation relay race Innovation and Good Deeds on Rails , organized as a part of the LG Corporate blood donation project, was accepted by the Russian Book of Records as the longest relay race ever completed with total distance of 4,285 km. Each of the eight cities the race passed through hosted blood drive events featuring famous Russian sports personalities serving as Ambassadors of Good. In 2013 LG Electronics held a second large-scale blood drive project - the Technology for a Good Cause Marathon - to support the programme developed by the Ministry of Healthcare and the Federal Biomedical Agency. Event participants travelled by boat through eight Russian cities where Donor Days featuring famous sportsmen were held, together with talks for students on the importance of volunteering for blood drives. The project was co-organized by the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs and the Federal Technology for a Good Cause Project. Eldorado and LG Electronics, partners in the consumer electronics business and in social projects, both took part in the event.
