Balfour Beatty, the international infrastructure group, in partnership with Norfolk County Council, has today announced the opening of New Drayton Lane, an essential link road forming part of the 20km Norwich Northern Distributor Road (NNDR) contract. This milestone will see the project enter the final construction phase for the major junction between the A1270 NNDR and the A140 Cromer Road.

New Drayton Lane will become part of the B1149, providing a new route to Norwich via the NNDR for Holt Road traffic, and for locals travelling from Horsford, Drayton and the surrounding areas. The opening of the link road will be followed by the closure of Holly Lane and Holt Road south of Horsford to make way for the NNDR dual carriageway and the slip roads at the grade-separated junction with the A140.

Ian Taylor, Project Manager for Norfolk County Council, said: 'Opening New Drayton Lane unlocks the final stages of work on the NNDR junction with the A140, but in the meantime there will be a period of disruption on Holt and Reepham roads, which are busy routes into Norwich. We look forward to working in partnership with the construction team to deliver this phase of the project as efficiently as possible.'

Chris Sedman, Balfour Beatty NNDR Project Director, commented: 'The opening of New Drayton Lane is a positive step forward for the project. The NNDR is set to transform journeys for local residents and is essential for the future prosperity of Norfolk as it provides a robust and direct transport link around Norwich, bringing relief to local communities and Norwich city centre.'
