Balfour Beatty Construction announced today that Oakland-based executive Sean Holliday will take on an expanded leadership role as vice president and business unit leader of the company’s Northern California office. The Northern California office is now part of Balfour Beatty’s California Division that includes both Northern and Southern California, as well as Arizona.

In his new role, Holliday will provide direction and oversight for all operations in Northern California, and serve as the top-ranking executive and spokesperson. He will work alongside the newly appointed president of the California Division, Brian Cahill. The California Division team is focused on harnessing its proven ability to consistently deliver high-quality solutions for clients, while maximizing the expanded experience, best practices and knowledge-sharing.

Sean Holliday, Vice President

Holliday’s background includes 18 years of industry experience and 13 years of service with Balfour Beatty Construction since joining the firm as a project manager in 2002. During his tenure, he has held many positions, including project manager and project executive before assuming his current role as vice president and business unit leader.

Not only has Holliday been a long-standing presence in the local construction market for over a decade, his expertise includes managing all aspects of construction from preconstruction to project close-out and client satisfaction. Holliday’s resume includes overseeing the successful completion of many high-profile projects in the Bay Area including 199 New Montgomery, 428 Alice Street, Jack London Square Market Hall and Ferry Building, 1285 Sutter, and One South Market. He also directed the pursuit, execution and strategy for the 801 Brannon and Transbay Block 9 projects in San Francisco, as well as the One South Market project in San Jose.

Holliday will continue building on the momentum the office has gained partnering with foundational clients and expanding into new markets, including the education market in which Balfour Beatty Construction is ranked the No. 1 education contractor by Engineering News Record (ENR) California.

Holliday holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Davis.

Brian Cahill, President, California Division

A 30-year construction industry veteran, Brain Cahill began his career with the company in 1993 as a project superintendent. In the years since, his passion, commitment to the business and strong leadership skills allowed him to quickly climb the ranks within the organization. In 2012, Cahill was promoted to division president of the company’s Southwest Division, overseeing operations throughout Southern California and Arizona.

In 2014, Cahill was named a “Top Influential” by the San Diego Daily Transcript in acknowledgement of his leadership, dedication to the company’s Zero Harm safety culture, and continuous commitment and support of the communities where he builds. The publication also ranks Balfour Beatty Construction as San Diego's largest general contractor. In 2015, Cahill was named president of the California Division.

In San Diego, Cahill is actively involved in initiatives and endeavors that have a positive impact in the construction industry, as well as in the community. He played a key role in coordinating the effort for Balfour Beatty Construction and its mission-aligned trade contractors to construct the 65,000-square-foot Ronald McDonald House of San Diego for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego at-cost – saving the charity millions of dollars. In addition, is a board member of Junior Achievement (JA) of San Diego and Imperial County, and has championed employee recruitment and fund-raising efforts resulting in more than $250,000 raised for the non-profit over the last 10 years.
