13 winners participate in 'Crash Acceleration Week'

Cúrsame wins Open Talent 2014 special prize for most voted online project

The Mexican project Cúrsame won the BBVA Open Talent 2014 special prize as the project most voted online. The startup favoured by Internet users received 581 votes for its platform that connects teachers, students and the directors of the same institution in order to improve the quality of education and narrow the digital gap through technology and online courses.

Cúrsame joins the other winners and runners-up from the three editions of BBVA Open Talent 2014 who will attend Crash Acceleration Week in New York, which runs from November 4 to 11. The 13 winning entrepreneurs from BBVA Open Talent 2014 will receive training and will be able to pitch their ideas to investors. Cúrsame will also travel to New York along with the winners and runners-up of the three regional editions of the sixth BBVA Open Talent competition, which is described below:

BBVA Open Talent Central- South America

Bankity, from Colombia, was the winner of the New Banking category for its services that help control spending related to cards by performing a daily analysis of how a given customer uses it. The runner up comes from Argentina: IncreaseCarduna is a tool that enables businesses to track sales and payments, and plan payment schedules and the amounts to be collected.

Cloudgrid is a startup from Brazil that allows users to control energy resources and the power grid through the cloud; and FirstJob.me, from Chile, is a Latin American social network for young professionals who are looking for work, training or internships are the respective winner and runner-up for the Digital Life category.

BBVA Open Talent Europe

Clausematch, a platform used to negotiate trade agreements, was the winner of the New Banking category, while Transfergo was the runner up with a service that facilitates and lowers the cost of remittances immigrants in Western Europe send to their home countries in the rest of Europe. Both startups are from the UK.

In the Digital Life category, the winners are Spanish: Counterest, a tool that counts people in order to bring web analytics to physical stores; and AudioSnap, the application that allows users to add sound to images captured with a smartphone camera.

BBVA Open Talent North America and Rest of World

Socure, is an artificial intelligence system that protects against online identity fraud, reducing costs and time, won the New Banking category. Epiphyte was the runner up with its virtual money movement service designed for financial institutions. Both are from the U.S.

The winners of the Digital Life category are Mexican. GridMarkets, a platform that allows users to share the excess capacity of the cloud throughout the world, won the first prize. The runner-up was Autochilango, an application for drivers in Mexico City, which provides information related to cars and traffic: workshops, traffic radar, details on insurance policies and traffic jams.

Crash acceleration week will mark the end of the BBVA Open Talent 2014 contest, in which 870 projects from over 56 countries have participated. Furthermore, we have detected 166 startups with disruptive technology in the financial services industry, an area we will continue to reinforce in upcoming editions.

BBVA will also help develop the winning projects of each category and edition with a contract worth 30,000 euros to test their services and products.
