One in five smartphones sold in 2017 will have learning capabilities, according to Deloitte's report Predictions for the Technology, Media and Telecommunications Sector 2017.

The study forecasts a 10% decline in tablet sales and higher vinyl sales, as well as an increase in income from television commercials, indoor positioning systems, and devices equipped with fingerprint scanners.

In terms of smartphones, Deloitte reports that more than 300 million mobile devices will have learning capabilities. They also estimate that 90% of the devices with fingerprint scanners will be smartphones and tablets.

Regarding connectivity technologies, Deloitte predicts that some elements of the fifth generation of mobile technology will be developed and installed in 2017, such as spectrum sharing. However, they do not expect to see the first standard version of 5G until 2018 and it won't be fully implemented until 2020.

And in relation to cybersecurity, Deloitte forecasts that distributed denials of service will increase in scale, become more frequent and more difficult to mitigate in 2017. This is partially due to Internet of Things devices with insufficient security and faster upload connections.
