Mexicans with access to banking services use online banking seven times a month, and mobile banking 12 times a month, mainly to check account balances, transfer money, and pay for services and credit cards, according to the Citibanamex's 2016 Digital Compass covered by El Financiero.

The study found that around 1.1 million of the 4.9 million SMEs in Mexico have access to banking services - up 7% y-o-y. Furthermore, nearly 920,000 of the SMEs with access to banking services use the Internet.

Of the electronic devices used to access electronic banking services, laptop and desktop computers stand out. They are primarily used to check account balances and transfer money, in other words, to pay salaries and providers.

The results indicated that today's society is highly attached to mobile devices, mainly to smartphones. 56% of those surveyed believe they will no longer use cash in the future, as transactions and payments will be one online using these devices.
