- A terrorist attack in Barcelona yesterday left at least 13 people dead and 100 injured. At 4:50 p.m., a van plowed into a crowd of pedestrians in the central district of Las Ramblas. The Mossos d'Esquadra, the Catalonia police, have detained two people in connection with the incident. One of them, Driss Oukabir, presumably was the person who rented the vehicle. The other suspect, who has still not been identified, was detained in Alcanar (Tarragona) where there was an explosion yesterday, related to the attack. Additionally, this morning the Catalonia police killed five terrorists who were planning another massacre in Cambrils (Tarragona), as reported by various news media, including El País, El Mundo, The New York Times, Financial Times, and The Guardian.

-Alarms are sounding in the European Central Bank (BCE) over the strengthening of the euro, while BCE President Mario Draghi said he would maintain the stimulus package until the end of the year. The BCE's directors left the door open to the possibility of raising the amount of the stimulus program, if the outlook becomes less favorable, the business daily CincoDías said.

-North Korea says the Seoul-Washington maneuvers could be a 'catastrophe.' The North Korean news agency, KCNA, says that they could put the security of East Asia at risk, the Spanish news agency EFE reports.

- The United States and Japan have agreed to speed up their talks on trade issues. The U.S. Trade Representative, Robert Lighthizer, has spoken with Japanese Foreign Minister, Taro Kono, about his government´s decision to increase tariffs on U.S: imports, Europa Press reports.

-The World Bank is enthusiastic about the 'promising direction' Argentina has taken. The institution's president, Jim Yong Kim, says he is 'very enthused and pleased' about the reforms undertaken by President Mauricio Macri, according to EFE.
