Some 42% of consumers control their food expenditure better when they shop online, according to the FoodISDigital study, carried out by the IPSOS polling firm for the Higher institute for Internet Development (ISDI). The study underscores the ease, the time savings and the greater control of spending as the advantages that online shopping provides for consumers.

Specifically, with respect to food, most shopping is done on a monthly basis, with an average cost of 82 euros and is carried out largely (77%) on the websites of supermarkets and hypermarkets. However, it is noteworthy that most men use websites such Amazon or Glovo, while the 'heavy users' manage their shopping list in a more diversified fashion, going to various e-commerce sites.

On the other hand, online reservations at restaurants account for only 30% of the total and have an average cost of 42 euros.

Likewise, 49% of consumers comment on their restaurant experience afterwards on Internet. A total of 70% of the online reservations are made for a set menu and 14% of users pay for their meals ahead of time.

As for home food delivery, 74% of the users inquire about it on the Internet and 69% have accounts on their favorite websites. The average bill for a delivery is 22 euros and three out of four customers consume more than they had planned to.
