Banco BPI is one of the most important Portuguese banking groups. Its activities are organized into 4 areas:
- retail banking: sales of traditional banking and specialized financial services and products via a network of 899 branches located in Portugal (649), Angola (136), and Mozambique (114);
- investment, financial, and market banking: consulting for merger-acquisitions, investment capital, specialized financing (for projects, acquisitions, etc.), stock brokerage, capital market activities, etc.;
- private banking;
- asset management: EUR7.4 billion in assets managed at the end of 2011.
At the end of 2011, the group managed EUR24.7 billion in current deposits and EUR28.3 billion in current credits.
