  • Santander funds 19th International Congress of the Latin American Studies Association.

Mönchengladbach, 1 February 2016-. The Westphalian Wilhelms-University Münster (WWU) and the Santander Consumer Bank AG have extended their cooperation for three more years. The respective agreement is signed by the headmistress of the Westphalian Wilhelms-University, Prof. Dr. Ursula Nelles and Ulrich Leuschner, CEO of the Santander Consumer Bank AG, in Münster.

The bank through Santander Universities supports some projects of the university since 2013. 'Investing into science and research reflects our responsibility to society. This investment serves as foundation for the continuous development of our society's education,' Ulrich Leuschner outlined during the signing of the contract.

One of the collaboration's priority will be the further expansion of the interdisciplinary 'Evolution Think Tanks' (ETT) as part of the Münster Graduate School of Evolution (MGSE). Established in 2011, the MGSE is an association of researchers of the WWU with the aim to establish permanent structures of evolutionary research within the network of geosciences, biology, medicine, mathematics and philosophy. The association enables research by excellent scientists of diverse studies- thus, being a mainstay of the university's academic profile.

Furthermore, Santander supports the international center for encounter, 'Die Brücke' ('The Bridge') offering various counselling and supervision options to foreign students. Another focus of the assistance measures: the WWU Graduate Centre. This facility allows graduates from all study courses to exchange ideas within their field of expertise as well as on an interdisciplinary scale.

The 19th International Congress of the Latin American Studies Association, taking place from the 11th to the 17th of July 2016 in Münster, is a special project funded by Santander. More than 800 participants are expected during this international meeting.

'Internationalization is an important strategic goal of WWU Münster. By means of Santander Universities' support, we were able to enlarge our activities and offers as well as align them to this goal. International, local and PhD students as well as scientists benefit equally from this development. I am very thankful for Santander Universities' commitment,' Prof. Ursula Nelles concluded.

Santander supports WWU on behalf of 'Santander Universities', a part of the global corporate area 'Santander Universidades'. From 2011 on, Santander Universities Germany has founded eleven partnerships with local universities as well as the German Universities Association within the scope of the bank's social commitment.
