DANAMON AND INTERNATIONAL FINANCE CORPORATION MOU SIGNING

DESIGN AND DEVELOP A FINANCING MODEL FOR MICRO, SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES IN THE AGRIBUSINESS SECTOR


Jakarta, 17 December 2014 - PT Bank Danamon Indonesia, Tbk. (Danamon) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group,  have agreed to sign an MOU to design and develop a financing model for micro, small and medium enterprises  in Indonesia's agribusiness sector through Danamon Simpan Pinjam (DSP).  IFC will also advise DSP in knowledge building and human resources, comprehensive assessment of the country's agricultural potential, including risks and financing opportunities and assist DSP expand its agricultural portfolio.

The three-year cooperation agreement, which goes into effect January 2015 to December 2018, was signed in Jakarta by Danamon Directors: Muliadi Rahadja, Satinder Pal Singh Ahluwalia, Pradip Chhadva and IFC County Manager Sarvesh Suri.

Sarvesh Suri, IFC Country Manager for Indonesia, said: "Agriculture is a very important employment sector for the poor, and agribusiness has great potential in Indonesia but is currently underserved by financial institutions. Danamon has significant micro and SME reach in agribusiness. Our advice will allow it to further support the development of the agriculture sector in Indonesia."

In the early phase, activities will involve 9 DSP units in Danamon's regional offices in Malang, Bandung and Medan. The pilot project will start in Malang in February 2015.  Following the early phase, the program will be replicated in 81 DSP units in East Java, West Java, and North Sumatra from March 2015 until December 2015.  By the end of 2015, it is targeted 90 DSP units will have implemented this program.


Since December 2010, Danamon Simpan Pinjam has been providing finance for the micro, small and medium businesses in the agribusiness sector, in specific commodities, such as palm oil, rubber, cocoa, oranges, fresh water fisheries and poultry. From December 2010 to October 2014, the financing to the micro agribusiness sector was 1.9 trillion Rupiah, reaching  22,000 customers  channeled through 234 DSP units, from the total of 1,079 units across Indonesia.
