CIO Magazine: Leumi - One of the 100 Leading Organizations Worldwide in Information Technology

Dan Yerushalmi, Head of Leumi's Technologies Division: 'We are proud to have been selected alongside major international companies in the field of technological innovation. This is a long and complex process in which we upgraded the entire IT system of the Bank, using cloud technology, in order to adapt ourselves to the challenges of the new era'.

Leumi was chosen in light of its Cloud Computing project.

US technology magazine CIO chose Leumi as one of the '100 leading organizations worldwide in the field of IT' in 2016, thanks to the implementation of the Bank's Cloud Computing project. The magazine publishes the 'CIO 100' list annually, recognizing 100 organizations around the globe that are using IT in innovative ways to deliver significant business value.

Leumi is the only Israeli organization to make the prestigious list, which includes major corporations such as: Accenture, AT&T, General Motors, HP, Hilton, Samsung, UBS, UNICEF, UPS, Verizon and Wells Fargo.

An awards ceremony was held on August 15th in Los Angeles, California, with Leumi represented by Head of Technologies Division, Mr. Dan Yerushalmi, who conceived and implemented the Cloud Computing project within the Bank.

Leumi's Cloud Computing project is the first of its kind in the Israeli banking system, and among the first in the global financial system. This innovative computing technology allows the organization to keep all business information on remote servers, with access to the information through the Internet. Cloud technology produces considerable savings in infrastructure spending, increasing storage space, a higher level of performance, more advanced backup capabilities, and a maximum level of security.

Since taking office three years ago, Mr. Yerushalmi has carried out a comprehensive reform in Leumi's IT operations, which at that time faced significant challenges, including high fixed infrastructure costs, a multi-platform CRM, and drawn-out development processes. Mr. Yerushalmi recognized that Cloud technology allows for the optimizing and streamlining of infrastructures, alongside the promotion of business goals.

Leumi's Technologies Division formulated a multi-year plan for the implementation of the Cloud project, in close cooperation with the Bank of Israel. During 2015, Leumi implemented a unified CRM system by US software giant Salesforce in all of the Bank's business lines, which replaced the existing systems. The new system has saved the Bank about 20% of current infrastructure and development costs, while simultaneously improving business processes and significantly optimizing customer interface.

CIO magazine was founded in the US in 1987 and is today considered a credible source of professional information among leading CIOs around the globe. The magazine covers IT news and trends, and annually selects outstanding organizations for their excellence in the field.
