Jakarta, 8 September 2014 - Trade is expanding throughout the country, as shown by the rapid increase in the number of new shopping and other commercial centers. These developments also have an impact on competition by forcing merchants to improve the quality of their services and wares. It is increasingly necessary for them to provide integrated services in order to enhance customer convenience and facilitate operations. For example, the restaurant business requires integration throughout the order-taking, kitchen order, inventory and payment processes.

Bank Mandiri continues to come up with new innovations so as to strengthen its retail payment services through the expansion of its electronic network. One such innovation is the Bank's collaborative venture with GoSwiff and its local partner, Indopay, to develop Mandiri Mobile POS (mPOS) payment services, which are complemented by a Point of Sales (POS) application. By using a smartphone or tablet that is linked to a card reader, merchants can avail of payment functions that are integrated with the merchant's existing cash registers and inventory stock. In the future, this POS application will be developed to serve loyalty programs offered by merchants to their loyal customers.

According to Bank Mandiri Senior Executive Vice President of Transaction Banking, Rico Usthavia Frans, Mandiri mPOS can improve transaction efficiency, security and convenience for retail merchants and corporations, such as restaurants, hotels, insurance companies, delivery services and other industries.

"The mPOS payment solution makes payments faster and more secure as it can use the 3G, GPRS or WIFI networks, can be conducted in front of the customer and payment slips can be directly emailed or texted to the customer," Rico explained at the launch of the Mandiri mPOS service at the Holycow Steak by Chef Afit restaurant in Jakarta on Monday (8 Sept). Bank Mandiri expects that mPOS will be adopted by up to 10,000 retail merchants, both individual and corporate, during the first year.

Meanwhile, Chef Afit, the owner of Holycow Steak by Chef Afit, welcomed the launch of Mandiri mPOS. "It offers value added services to my customers. Simply by using one smartphone or tablet, the order-taking and payment functions can be conducted quickly and easily."

"In addition, I can easily monitor sales in all of our outlets by using a tablet whenever and wherever as Mandiri mPOS also features online reporting," Chef Afit explained.

From the start of the year to the end of July, a total of 59 million transactions worth Rp 47.309 billion, had been conducted through Mandiri electronic banking services, up from 47 million transactions worth Rp 37.804 billion during the same period last year.

Mandiri will continue to develop its electronic transaction services so that customers can conduct their financial transactions with greater ease in this age of unprecedented mobility.
