Bank Mandiri Strengthens Indonesian Plantation Industry, Provides Rp 57.4 trillion in Financing to Palm Oil Sector
09/09/15

Jakarta, 9 September 2015 - Bank Mandiri intends to continue contributing positively to the development of the Indonesian plantation sector, especially the palm oil industry. To that end, Bank Mandiri disbursed loans to the palm oil sector, including its derivative industries, amounting to Rp 57.4 trillion as of July 2015, up 5.13% from Rp 54.6 trillion the previous year.

Of the total financing, lending for the development of oil palm plantations (on-farm) amounted to Rp 49.7 trillion, while lending to the off-farm sector, which includes palm oil derivative products (both refined and oleochemicals) stood at Rp 7.7 trillion.

In addition, the Government, through the Palm Plantation Fund Management Board (BPDP Sawit), appointed Bank Mandiri as a payee bank for palm oil export tax based on a Memorandum of Understanding on Indonesian Palm Oil Development. Bank Mandiri is committed to providing banking and other services as part of the collection, management and channeling of palm oil export tax receipts.

As a manifestation of Bank Mandiri's support for the development of the Indonesian palm oil industry, the Bank participated in the 2015 Palm Oil Industry Development Conference (POIDEC) at the Hotel Borobudur on 9-10 September.

During the conference, Bank Mandiri Senior Vice President Corporate Banking Indarto Pamoengkas said that the development of the palm oil industry in a planned, efficient and compliant manner would make it robust and resilient. He said that Bank Mandiri had a long history of financing the development of palm plantations that stretched back to the 4 legacy banks that merged to form Bank Mandiri. Back then, state-owned banks had always been included in various government financing schemes, such as PIR KHUSUS, PIR TRANS, PIR KKPA, PBSN I, II and III, and KPEN-RP. With its long experience and deep understanding of the characteristics of the industry, Bank Mandiri had played a major role in promoting the growth and development of the palm sector.

"We have constantly improved the quality of our financing by conducting regular studies on the palm oil industry through both internal research and by involving competent external parties, covering all the macro and micro aspects so as to help us maintain optimal credit quality," said Indarto.
