Jakarta, 10 December 2015 - Bank Mandiri has teamed up with payments provider, Boku, to facilitate online payment transactions by Facebook users in Indonesia using Mandiri e-cash. As part of the collaboration, Mandiri e-cash has been integrated into the Boku payment platform so that Indonesian facebook users can now enjoy the convenience of transacting using Mandiri e-cash.

Rico Usthavia Frans said that the collaboration was intended to further popularize Mandiri e-cash among Facebook users in Indonesia as an alternative electronic payment means that can be used both for digital transactions and purchases. With Mandiri e-cash, online gamers need no longer worry about running out of credit while playing as topping up is so easy. As for merchants, this payment method offers a variety of benefits, including lower transaction costs, and faster transaction and settlement processes.

'It's easy to make a payment using Mandiri e-cash on Facebook. The user can simply choose to pay by mobile phone and enter his or her phone number. Then, all that needs to be done is to enter the verification code sent by SMS to complete the transaction. If the transaction is successful, it will immediately be deducted from the user's Mandiri e-cash balance,' Rico explained.

Mandiri e-cash is an electronic money app that aims to encourage the creation of a cashless society. The Mandiri e-cash app, which can be downloaded at *141*6# or from Google Play, App Store, Blackberry App World or Nokia Store, represents the coming together of banking and telecommunications services, and can be used by both Mandiri and non-Mandiri customers, with the user's mobile phone number doubling up as their account number.

As of the end of November 2015, the number of Mandiri e-cash users stood at more than 1.5 million, with total transaction volume amounting to Rp 1.9 trillion. This collaboration is expected to increase the number of e-cash users and transaction volume by up to 100% over the coming year.

'E-commerce transactions are now an everyday part of life for a section of Indonesian society, particularly the younger generation and the middle-class. Moreover, there are now a lot of e-commerce businesses operating in Indonesia, both local and international. This offers highly prospective business opportunities going forward,' said Rico.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has stated that the value of e-commerce transactions amounted to USD 12 billion last year. This figure is expected to increase tenfold to USD 135 billion by 2020.

As regards Bank Mandiri, the value of the company's e-commerce transactions (acquiring) up to the end of November 2015 amounted to more than Rp 2.3 trillion, which figure is expected to increase by up to 100% next year.

'This collaboration also supports the National Non-Cash Movement (GNNT), which is being promoted by the government,' Rico added.

Meanwhile, Adam Lee said that the use of server-based electronic money was an innovative breakthrough that improved the user's transaction convenience. The need for carrier-billing payment methods was increasing significantly, particularly in developing countries like Indonesia. Therefore, he said, Boku had opted to integrate Mandiri e-cash into the Boku carrier billing platform.
