BANK OF MAHARASHTRA
Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi launched Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) today at Delhi. The ambitious programme envisages to bring the financially excluded strata of the society into the banking fold.
Simultaneous functions were held all over the country in all the districts. The main launch function for the State of Maharashtra was held at Mumbai. This function was chaired by Hon'ble Minister of State for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy, Shri Piyush ji Goyal. Smt. Deepali Pant Joshi, Executive Director, Reserve Bank of India, Shri R. Athmaram, Executive Director, Bank of Maharashtra, Shri K.P. Bakshi, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra and Shri S. Bharatkumar, General Manager & Convener, SLBC, Maharashtra also graced the function. The function was attended in huge number by bankers, representative of insurance companies, representatives of the Government, National Payments Corporation of India and Reserve Bank of India.
Shri Piyush ji Goyal in his address informed the necessity of including all the financially excluded sections of the society into the main financial system. He requested that if each person takes the responsibility to help and open an account of a person who is not having an account, then this task can be accomplished smoothly. He lauded the efforts of the banking
personnel and invited all the citizens to involve in this national task. A few beneficiaries who opened accounts under the campaign were felicitated by the minister and kits containing their passbooks were handed over to them.
Shri R. Athmaram assured that with the involvement of all the Bankers, Banks in Maharashtra will achieve and surpass the target given to them under this scheme and see to it that all the households who have no banking relations will be provided with Bank accounts before 26th January, 2015 as suggested by the Prime Minister during his launching address of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana at Delhi.
Three more mega launch functions were also held at Pune, Nagpur and Thane which were graced by Shri Prakash Ji Jawadekar, Shri Nitin Ji Gadkari and Shri Raosaheb ji Danave respectively. All these functions were well attended by representatives of Bankers, Insurers and Government.
Apart from these four mega functions, launching functions of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana were also held in all the Districts across the State. At District places Lead District Managers arranged these functions which were chaired by the District Collectors and attended by Local MPs, MLAs and representatives of Banks and Insurance companies.
