BNY Mellon has been recognized as part of the 2017 Asian Pacific American (APA) Employer Awards.
Presented by Asia Society, the awards recognize employers that are leaders in successfully attracting, developing and retaining APA employees. The awards were presented at the 9th Diversity Leadership Forum at the Asia Society in New York on May 24.
'BNY Mellon is honored to be recognized by Asia Society as the 'Global Best Employer for LGBT Asian Employees,'' said Mitchell Harris, Chief Executive Officer of BNY Mellon Investment Management and executive sponsor of PRISM, BNY Mellon's LGBTQA employee resource group. 'We believe our diversity brings us the dimension we need to improve lives through investing and shape the future of finance. As an investments company, we make investments to unlock potential, and one of the best investments we're making is in talent - to create the conditions for all of our people to thrive and grow, to be proud of who they are and where they work, and to feel empowered to achieve their full potential.'

BNY Mellon was selected for these 2017 Best Asian Pacific Americans Employer Awards and Best Practices:

  • 2017 (Global) Best Employer for LGBT Asian Employees
  • 2017 Noteworthy Performance in the Category of Best Employer for Promoting Asian Pacific American Women
  • 2017 Best Practices in the Category of LGBT Asian Employees (Best of the Best)
  • 2017 Best Practices in the Category of Asian Pacific American Employee Resource Groups (second consecutive year for this honor)

'In considering BNY Mellon, we were impressed with the company's commitment to diversity and inclusion, particularly with regard to LGBT employees,' said David Whitelaw Reid, Executive Director for Global Talent Initiatives at Asia Society. 'In addition to being recognized with a 100 percent score on the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index for 10 consecutive years, BNY Mellon shares its experiences and best practices with other employers to promote equality and accelerate progress across industries.'

Thousands of BNY Mellon employees belong to one of the company's business and employee resource groups (BRGs and ERGs). These groups, including PRISM and IMPACT, which highlights and promotes multicultural talent, bring people together on the basis of shared attributes, interests, or experiences. They connect employees around the world, helping them express and establish their unique value, and providing leadership development and skill-building opportunities.

The Asia Society awards are based on the results of the Asian Pacific Americans Corporate Survey, a national benchmark study about the growth, development and advancement of APA employees in Fortune 500 companies. Winners were selected based on a statistical analysis of internal employee surveys distributed to APAs and an external judging panel.
