PASADENA, Calif., Nov. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Wallaby Financial, the leader in mobile and web-based credit card optimization solutions, today announced that U.S. News & World Report is using Wallaby's CardBase® API data to power its new Best Credit Cards rankings. This detailed review includes hundreds of credit cards and is intended to provide consumers with a clear and comprehensive ranking to help them find the perfect match. This collaboration is a testament to the power and reliability of Wallaby Financial's data and developer tools.

CardBase is the largest and most comprehensive database of credit cards in the United States, comprising more than 3,000 credit card profiles, issued by more than 600 financial institutions. Via the CardBase API, Wallaby Financial provides data and calculations that enable U.S. News & World Report to provide consumers comprehensive rankings. Information about each credit card such as its reward program, fees, interest rates and features are among the more than 100 available data points. In addition, data include calculations of value provided by these features and rewards. These calculations include:

-- The monetary value of ancillary card benefits such as status, upgrades,
checked bags, free nights and service credits. Calculations looked at
direct values and used subjective dollar value assessments to establish
accurate numbers that reflect the value of these ancillary benefits.
-- Wallaby Financial's rewards conversion factor that calculates the
average cost per rewards unit, whether it is points or miles. For
example, the methodology offers an example of Wallaby data used to
calculate the monetary value of a single point for Westin Resorts
        rewards.

"U.S. News & World Report is a longstanding authority that has helped millions of consumers to make important life decisions with its rankings and advice content," said Wallaby founder and CEO Matthew Goldman. "We're thrilled to provide the best data possible for these in-depth rankings that give consumers an unbiased and transparent view of the best card options. We look forward to continue working with U.S. News & World Report where we offer our sophisticated and frequently refined data to help it maintain a credible, up-to-date list."

Wallaby Financial is providing the backend analytics and card information, such as benefits and amenities that enable U.S. News & World Report to create these rankings. CardBase gives dollar values to card benefits and uses big data and proprietary algorithms to quantify what each point is worth on a card. U.S. News & World Report then uses this information to conduct its own analysis and rankings methodology.

"We wanted to expand our 'Best of' rankings to include credit cards, and knew Wallaby Financial could provide us with credible insights into the best options," said Kim Heneghan, VP and GM of Money Products at U.S. News & World Report. "Wallaby Financial gives us an objective and transparent source of data, with its CardBase solution offering tremendous insight about card programs and their various amenities."

U.S. News & World Report ranks credit cards in the following 11 categories: no annual fee, 0 percent introductory APR, business, cash back, gas, hotel, low interest, points, secured, student and airline. The rankings are based on three main factors that are listed and weighted as follows: net monetary value (70 percent), product features (10 percent) and customer experience (20 percent).
