May 2015 consumer survey

Consumer confidence strengthens in May

After having virtually stabilised in the two previous months, consumer confidence revived again in May. Consequently, the indicator reached its highest level for four years.

The macroeconomic outlook improved significantly in May. So, the general economic situation for the coming months is clearly regarded in a brighter way. At the same time, the fear of a rise in unemployment has diminished considerably.

On a personal level, households' expectations about their future financial situation remained unchanged. Yet, they expect their saving capacity to increase in the next twelve months.
