From 18 to 20 November, the Petroleum Society of Great Britain welcomed thousands of professionals and students at the 25th edition of PETEX in London to learn, discuss and discover the latest developments in exploration, development, production and subsurface technology. Barco and Schlumberger were two proud sponsors of the biennial London conference: we equipped the 3D Visualization theater, part of the conference program, with a top-notch visualization solution and proudly hosted a series of keynote presentations.

Immersion into a 3D world
Barco and Schlumberger have been working to bring a very exciting piece of technology to the show, for this year's PETEX: a Galaxy 4K HFR projector, together with an MCM-400 HFR image processing box and a high-end rear-projection screen. The projector was set up at the 3D Visualization Theater, a purpose-built theater where universities and companies had the chance to showcase their latest hardware and software technology. Ensuring bright, high-fidelity 3D imagery, the Galaxy projector helped bring the most diverse models and surfaces - from deep water sediment to continental earth scale modeling and from Eocene cliff sections in the Faroe Islands subsurface to Central America - to life.

Barco's visualization approach
"We were happy to host three presentations over the three days and both open and close the conference program," said Yoav Nir, Market Director Natural Resources. "It was good to see how the attendees responded enthusiastically to the 4K resolution images." Yoav himself hosted two presentations entitled "How to get a better insight into your subsurface data making use of state of the art in networked visualization and collaboration technology" and "How the evolution of digital cinema technology has changed the way in which we visualize the subsurface".
