In a recent study conducted on behalf of Barco NV, a global provider of visualisation technologies, the most common and time-consuming issue faced by IT departments lies with presentation technology.

One of the biggest and most surprising revelations from the survey is that employees who are either millennials or Generation X tend to struggle with presentation technology and require IT support to set up in the boardroom. By comparison, employees who are over the age of 55 are typically more self-sufficient.

Commenting on the survey results, Eric Brouwers, vice president, Barco Middle East and Africa, shared: "This study reveals something which is against the perception of the population. It reveals that millennials have the most of the problems related to IT."

He added: "The perception of the people is that youngsters are born with IT and should be network-savvy. They play with tools and they should know how to solve the issues. That's the perception of the market, but the study proves otherwise."

Findings from the global study showed that boardroom technology was often the biggest IT challenge facing organisations, and that IT departments at an average company could see up to 11 issues each week.

Additionally, the study noted that 58% of respondents believed the cause of IT issues in the boardroom were a result of employees lacking the necessary IT knowledge, while 86% believed their organisation's employees should have better technology skills to cope.

"I'm still in the generation that was born with CPM, an operating system used in the 70s. We were so excited when the first PCs came out. We wanted to know how things work," explains Brouwers

"We see a lot of people use Windows 10 but its application oriented ... everybody uses apps, but nobody knows how such things work. On that phenomena, we see that in the meeting room as well. People are lost when something does not work."

The final stretch of the survey focused on the impact of ineffective presentation technology, which more than 50% of respondents believed contributed to loss of business and damaged reputation.

Another 72% reported that presentation technology issues would lead to critical meetings being postponed, while 73% reported the same problems would lead to disputes between colleagues.

To combat these challenges in the boardroom with presentation technology, Barco recently launched ClickShare, a wireless presentation software, which is designed to share content with others quickly and with ease.

ClickShare's features include independent operation from the network, smooth video sharing, extended desktop and mirror mode support. Accessible with most devices with a simple connected

"Clickshare is a hardware/software app that makes it possible to connect your own device or PC, to show it on the screen, without having to think how things work," commented Brouwers.

"We have introduced that product that fits exactly with the findings of the study and with what we see in the market related to IT."

Commissioned by Barco and conducted by Vanson Bourne, an independent research agency, the global study surveyed over 1,250 decision makers from organisations across the UK, US, Germany and France. These include management executives active in IT, telecoms, education, travel, financial services, healthcare, energy and entertainment.
