Barco was a proud sponsor of last week's DSET in Bristol (UK) - a new conference and exhibition on Military Simulation. At its DSET stand, Barco showcased its flagship F35 projector, while the stand of Immersive Display Solutions, Inc. (IDSI) featured four Barco F50 simulation projectors. With around 200 delegates attending, this dedicated conference, where the military world largely set the agenda, was ideal for Barco to gauge the market needs and highlight the power of its leading projection solutions.

Bringing the military community together

DSET was launched to answer a clear market need: from research, the organizers had learned that the military wanted a real, focused forum to exchange best practices and foster debate. To ensure that they'd be delivering the content they wanted, they invited participants and the Serving Forces to contribute to the agenda. Moreover, attendance at DSET 2016 was tightly limited and there was a 'rigid ratio' of 60% military, government and academia to 40% industry to ensure that user requirements and future trends would dominate the agenda.

'With a limited number of selected delegates and sponsors and, most importantly, an agenda set by the military itself, DSET was a truly unique event,' said Espen Olsen, Barco's Director of Sales Simulation Europe. 'Consequently, it provided us with a unique opportunity to understand the market's training needs and of, course, present our solutions.'

In the spots: F35 and F50 projectors

Visitors to our stand at DSET discovered the F35 single chip projector. And four Barco F50 WQXGA projectors, which offer a powerful combination of price and performance, were on show at the stand of our business partner IDSI. IDSI set up a 4m curved display/screen and demonstrated an ISTAR mission scenario from Close Air Solutions. In addition, two units of our ClickShare wireless presentation system were used in the conference rooms.

UK Ministry of Defence

'Our simulation projectors offer the highest level of realism, which is critical to shifting more live action military training to the safer and more cost-effective simulator platform,' explained Gerben Van den Berg, Vice President Sales EMEA at Barco. Barco's simulation projector portfolio is finding its way to training applications around the world. The US Air National Guard, for example, uses 14 Barco FS35 IR LED projectors, installed by IDSI. Just recently, the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) purchased 160 Barco high-performance F22 projectors, to be integrated into its training system.
