Barco's long-term strategy was on full display at this year's CineAsia. With a massive show of new products, capabilities, demos and the largest, most diverse portfolio of laser cinema projectors in the world, it made good on its promise to show the world how the future of cinema looks like. In addition to its rapidly expanding fleet of stunning laser projectors, Barco also introduced and demonstrated AuroMax® immersive sound, perfectly paired with its newest flagship projector; demonstrated its growing slate of content in the three-screen Barco Escape format and theater universe and provided business insights in an innovative new session on maximizing technology ROI.

Growing the portfolio: lasers for every screen

Extending the laser phosphor offering: big and small

Last year at CineAsia, Barco introduced the breakout and record-breaking DPK2-20CLP, the laser version of its global workhorse, mid-market projector. Since then, over 1,500 screens have been lit with what will likely become the workhorse laser projector. But as promised, there was much more to come. Visitors at CineAsia were treated to the world premiere demo of the industry's first, brightest and only 4K laser phosphor projector, the DP4K-23BLP. At 23,500 DCI lumens, it is the brightest laser phosphor cinema projector… by far. The 23BLP is also available in a 2K version and the DP4K-17BLP provides 4K image quality at 17,000 lumens. All feature superior, consistent image quality, higher contrast, long lifetime, and lower per lumen power consumption than their Xenon counterparts - for screens from 13 to 23m (43-75ft) wide.

So after proving it can go BIG with laser phosphor, this portfolio now also includes two 'small-screen giants', the DP2K-8SLP and DP2K-10SLP. At 7,500 and 9,000 DCI lumens, these two models can light up screens ranging from 6 to 13 meters (20 to 43 feet) wide for 30,000 hours or more.

With the addition of these new models, the laser phosphor portfolio now includes seven models - new and retrofit. They eliminate all lamp-related cost and hassle and save up to 50% on power consumption.

With laser phosphor projectors ranging from 7,500 to 23,500 lumens and flagship laser models from 20,000 up to 60,000 lumens, Barco now offers the perfect laser projector options for every screen.

New PLF projector of choice: more contrast

Barco expanded its market-leading flagship RGB laser product line by introducing 'laser high-contrast' (LHC) models at CineAsia. The DP4K-20LHC and DP4K-40LHC triple the contrast vs. Xenon 4K and further extend the already magnificent image quality of the flagship line. The LHC will likely become the new PLF 'projector of choice' going forward, exceeding the expectations of the most discerning cinema viewers.

Barco Escape keeps growing: more screens, more content

Barco Escape
, the unique, immersive wide-screen format is experiencing rapid growth, both in deployment and content development. During its recent record-breaking run of Star Trek Beyond, it outperformed every other premium format in terms of box office per screen. Not only did it outperform on a per screen basis, it had longer runs. With a growing slate of titles next year, it will be possible to keep a dedicated Barco Escape screen continuously booked with unique, exciting and immersive content.

AuroMax® ready to take off with new standards

This year at CineAsia, Barco introduced its next-generation, 'object-based', immersive sound - AuroMax®. The perfect pairing with high-contrast flagship laser, it brings years of development and refinement to the cinema audio experience. With SMPTE immersive audio standards coming in 2017, AuroMax® will deliver on its key features: higher performance, greater flexibility, and lower cost… and lots more content.

PLF foundations: immersive image and sound demo

Barco customers and partners were treated to a world premiere demo of tomorrow's premium cinema experience! Over 150 guests experienced a wide range of exquisite content in a theater that was specially outfitted with Barco's newest high-contrast RGB laser projection and an AuroMax® three-level immersive audio system for the demo. This premium combination of magnificent image quality and crisp, precise, and subtle immersive sound quality, was the highlight of CineAsia. It enabled the audience to experience a range of 2D, 3D, high-contrast, HFR and high-brightness content, while being immersed in the AuroMax® future. Raindrops and whizzing bullets, yes! But with the most subtle and refined dialog passages as well.

Creating a premium total experience

This year at CineAsia, Barco went beyond its powerful slate of new cinema technologies and products. It sponsored a new session on the creation of a premium 'total experience'. Carrying forward work presented at IBC in September, Domien de Witte, Strategic Marketing Manager for Cinema at Barco, joined several industry leaders who brought their vision and experience on what it means to deliver a truly premium customer experience. And taking cues from Domien's work, Barco brought its customers a series of premium experiences too - in their booth, in the demo theater, at the VIP laser/AuroMax® demo, and at their remarkable customer appreciation dinner, 100 floors above the Hong Kong Harbor.

Delivering the future of cinema leadership today

The CineAsia audience was treated to sight and sound from Barco's cinema future: seven new projectors, AuroMax® sound, Barco Escape, and all the other ingredients needed for the best all-laser cinemas in the world.
