Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS), the nation’s largest retail bookseller and the leading retailer of content, digital media and educational products, today announced a very special Fall Educator Appreciation Days with the goal of uniting educators to make the world a better place. During Educator Appreciation Days, from Saturday, October 10, through Sunday, October 18, Barnes & Noble stores nationwide will host events, workshops and demonstrations designed to showcase how educators can empower students to make positive changes in their community.

An exclusive preview of Barnes & Noble’s upcoming Mini Maker Faire will provide educators with new insights into the Maker movement and its focus on creating, collaborating and sharing ideas that can change the world. To further support that goal, Barnes & Noble is partnering with Penguin Random House to offer educators a special workshop based on Chelsea Clinton’s new book, It’s Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired & Get Going!, which helps inspire readers to do what they can to make an impact in the world around them. Educators can visit www.bn.com/storelocator for more information on when these workshops will be occurring at their local Barnes & Noble.

“We’re excited about the lineup of events and promotions during Educator Appreciation Week, all designed to provide educators across the country with fresh thinking on how to inspire their students to make a difference,” said Sarah DiFrancesco, Vice President, Business Development, Barnes & Noble, Inc. “By focusing our key events around Chelsea Clinton’s new book and a preview of our upcoming Mini Maker Faire, we’re highlighting how Barnes & Noble shares the same values as educators through a commitment to community, creativity, collaborative learning and tech literacy.”

Preview the First-Ever Retail Mini Maker Faire Hosted by Barnes & Noble

The Maker movement is founded on the importance of experiential learning through the processes of collaboration, experimentation and creativity, and there’s no better way to help educators implement these changes in their classrooms and local communities than by giving them a special preview of Barnes & Noble’s first-ever Mini Maker Faire, which will take place November 6-8 in stores nationwide. To give educators a glimpse of what the Mini Maker Faire will encompass, Barnes & Noble stores will host demonstrations of products during Educator Appreciation Days from two of its biggest partners in the initiative: XYZprinting and littleBits.

These demonstrations will be specially designed for educators, and will feature the da Vinci Jr.1.0 3D printer provided by XYZprinting and electronic building block kits from littleBits. Both products are designed to help spark children’s inner inventing spirit, and empower kids to play creatively with technology. In doing so, the products are perfect for practical and effective use in the classroom, especially in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programs where they are already popular.

Educators are also invited back the first weekend in November for Barnes & Noble’s first national retail Mini Maker Faire in partnership with Maker Media. Attendees will experience hands-on learning and making opportunities in the areas of ideation, creative thinking, art, design, construction and innovation, as well as programming, coding and 3D printing – with activities for children ages five and up to adults. For information, visit BN.com/MakerFaire.

Barnes & Noble’s Exclusive Workshop and Contest Featuring Chelsea Clinton

Barnes & Noble has also partnered with Penguin Random House to offer educators a special workshop based on Chelsea Clinton’s new book, It’s Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired & Get Going!, which helps inspire readers to do what they can to make a difference in the world around them. During the workshop, educators will be encouraged to take this challenge and deliver it to their students and local communities. With stories about children and teens who have made changes within their families, their communities, their countries and the world, It’s Your World includes messages that will help educators show students of all ages they have the power to make the world a better place. Customers should contact their local store or visit www.bn.com/storelocator to find out if any special guests will be hosting the It’s Your World workshop.

Plus, after attending the It’s Your World workshop at Barnes & Noble, educators can enter for the chance to have Chelsea Clinton visit their classroom, school or local community, through Barnes & Noble’s exclusive “Get Going Day with Chelsea Clinton” contest. To enter, educators should use the knowledge they take from the workshop and work with their fellow teachers and students to develop a proposal to make a positive change in their local community. Chelsea Clinton will join the winning entrant at their school or local community to help them “activate” their project and “Get Going.” For additional information on the contest, educators should visit www.bn.com/educator.
