• MasterSunaamong finalists of the award for the most innovative product
  • Construction products for increased efficiency and reduced costs and emissions
  • Presentation of the new sustainability campaign

Barcelona, Spain, May 24, 2017 - From May 23 to 26, Master Builders Solutions experts from BASF will present their solutions for customers from the construction industry at the international trade show Barcelona Building Construmat at booth number D448 in pavilion number 2. The solutions presented also include the new MasterSuna SBS concrete admixture which is among the finalists for the 2017 innovation award of the Barcelona Building Construmat. The award ceremony will take place on May 24.

Based on an innovative molecule structure, the new MasterSuna enables sands containing swelling clay to be used in the production of high-quality concrete. This in turn enables concrete producers to significantly reduce their costs. Given their availability, sands contaminated with swelling clay from local sources can be used, thereby reducing, or omitting the need to secure additional suitable sands from remote sources.

Owners of sand quarries can also benefit from the use of MasterSuna SBS. Historically, sands contaminated with swelling clay could only be utilized in less-demanding applications, if at all. However, MasterSuna SBS now makes it possible to use existing deposits to a much greater extent. Furthermore, the washing and pre-treatment of local sands can also be reduced, thus increasing the economic value of the sand quarry. At the same time, the number of new sand quarries to be developed can be reduced as well.

Broad product portfolio of Master Builders Solutions
At the Barcelona Building Construmat BASF will present its broad portfolio of solutions for the construction industry. For example, MasterTop 1327-20dB, the latest flooring technology from Master Builders Solutions. It reduces impact sound by 20 decibels, while offering numerous sustainable benefits like low material consumption, high durability, and lower life cycle costs.

The silane-based corrosion inhibitor MasterProtect 8000 CI provides protection of reinforced concrete structures in two ways, firstly by the corrosion inhibition, which strengthens the passive layer on the steel, and secondly by reducing the ingress of water by creating a hydrophobic barrier in the concrete matrix. This unique combination makes the product ideal for service life extension after repair.

The advantages of the elastic waterproofing slurry MasterSeal 6100 FX are based upon a combination of powerful binding systems and powdery polymers. The product was designed and developed in alignment with LEED criteria (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for ecologically high-performing buildings: According to this standard MasterSeal 6100 FX scores extremely well due to the use of recycled content, regional material, and low-emitting materials.

New sustainability campaign
At the BASF booth at Barcelona Building Construmat, visitors will have the opportunity to stay current on how products from Master Builders Solutions help improve eco-efficiency. Customers are enabled to, for instance, utilize resources more efficiently and significantly reduce costs, as documented by assessment methods such as BASF's Eco-Efficiency Analysis or the Life-Cycle Analyzer. Providing many relevant examples, the Europe-wide Master Builders Solutions sustainability campaign was launched in 2017. The campaign showcases projects where customers were able to increase their productivity while at the same time reduce costs and emissions thanks to the advanced chemistry from BASF. In one such example, the precast manufacturer Uniblok - a Velatia company in Toledo, Spain - achieves extraordinary results with their concrete by mixing in MasterFiber. The advanced fiber technology from Master Builders Solutions strengthens concrete and reduces the amount of steel reinforcement required. With MasterFiber Uniblok could increase their efficiency by 10% and reduce their global warming potential by 21%.
