GEISMAR, LA, November 24, 2014 - BASF awarded $10,000 in scholarships to four engineering majors at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as part of the BASF Team Chemistry Scholarship Fund.

"We appreciate LSU and the School of Engineering for their continued leadership in preparing the next generation of engineers and scientists," said Tom Yura, Senior Vice President and Manager of the BASF site in Geismar, Louisiana. "We congratulate the students who earned BASF scholarships by excelling in their studies and being leaders on campus and in the community."

Each student received a $2,500 scholarship from BASF. Recipients maintain high grade-point averages and are active in campus and community organizations.

In addition to scholarships, this year BASF donated $1 million to establish the BASF Sustainable Living Laboratory as part of the engineering expansion project for LSU's College of Engineering, and $100,000 to support construction of the new LSU Olinde Career Center.

"BASF remains a strong corporate partner and employer for LSU's College of Engineering and its students," said Rick Koubek, Ph.D., Dean of LSU's College of Engineering. "In addition to sponsoring the BASF Sustainable Living Lab which promotes renewable focused research, their support of scholarships, student organizations and design projects exhibits their commitment to cultivating and growing the engineering workforce of tomorrow."

BASF's manufacturing presence near LSU includes operations in Geismar, the corporation's largest site in North America, Zachary and Vidalia. BASF employs a workforce of around 2,000 people in Louisiana and invests nearly $300 million in the state through annual payroll, purchases, taxes and charitable contributions.
