Leverkusen, March 2015 - Bayer MaterialScience's products for the cosmetics industry are innovative, sustainable and versatile. Baycusan® brand polyurethane dispersions enable numerous new applications and have become established as multifunctional raw materials for the beauty industry. They are free of preservatives and solvents and are used in cosmetic formulations for skin care and sun protection products, hair care and decorative cosmetics.

The brand is to be relaunched at the in-cosmetics industry trade show, from April 14 to 16, 2015, in Barcelona: Under the slogan "Beauty made possible," it is being positioned as "The Beauty Enabler."

Baycusan® C now comes with a new, contemporary image, new product grades and new formulations. "Our raw materials are what make it possible in the first place for the cosmetics industry to develop more advanced products and thus to respond to growing and changing market demands. A natural look, velvety skin and glossy hair are the outstanding properties of our film-formers," says Dr. Paula Rodrigues, Head of Cosmetics at Bayer MaterialScience. "They fulfill all the requirements imposed on today's cosmetics products worldwide. That is precisely what the slogan 'Beauty made possible' is intended to visualize".

Now also approved in China
The Baycusan® C 1004 dispersion also was recently approved for the Chinese market. The polymer with the INCI name (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) "Polyurethane-35" has already proven itself internationally to be a multitalent in decorative cosmetics. "We are delighted that the Chinese Food and Drug Administration has granted approval for our product," Rodrigues says. "Cosmetics manufacturers all over the globe can now use this raw material for their formulations."

Baycusan® C 1004 supports innovative products and offers users critical advantages: In innovative mascara formulations like "Magic Mascara," it lengthens and thickens eyelashes, is waterproof and completely smudgeproof. Thanks to its anti-smudge effect, it also is ideal for the eyeliner formulations that are currently so popular.

With these properties, Baycusan® C 1004 also is effective in skin foundation formulations: "It doesn't rub off and it's long-wearing, sweat-proof and waterproof," explains Dr. Sophie Viala, Head of Development for Cosmetic Raw Materials at Bayer MaterialScience. Furthermore, it easily delivers high-level opacity and SPF-boosting effects, while the exceptional sensory properties leave skin feeling wonderful.

New standard in hair care
Last year, product innovations incorporating Baycusan® C 1008 caused a stir in the hair care and styling market. Adding just two percent is enough to give hair care formulations the triple benefit of "Protect - Repair - Style." Baycusan® C 1008 has been shown to form a micro-thin, highly elastic film around each individual strand that displays superior heat resistance, protecting hair against temperatures up to 270 degrees Celsius.

The polymer also shields hair just as effectively against the effects of humidity, making it an ideal frizz control tool proven to prevent frizzing from occurring. At the same time, it is capable of "cementing" split ends. Last but not least, Baycusan® C 1008 lends hair natural gloss and flexible hold.
