Leverkusen, September 23, 2014 - Rail travel is environmentally friendly and sustainable. And stylish, functional train interiors are also making it more attractive all the time. That's where high-performance plastics from Bayer have lots to contribute: the products are making modern lighting concepts, comfortable seats and an esthetic atmosphere possible. In Berlin, at the InnoTrans trade fair for transport technology, train interiors are a key focus - and Bayer MaterialScience is on board, with innovative and sustainable material solutions.

The highlights include Makrolon® and Bayblend® flame-retardant plastic sheets that offer maximum safety for passengers. These products are lightweight and very robust, and they can even stand up to vandalism. They can be colored in many shades, even with special surface structures. Rail companies are using this design freedom to convey a distinctive look to their customers.

Pleasant lighting
Polycarbonate was invented more than 60 years ago at Bayer, and the material can be shaped in any way imaginable. Without coloring, the plastic is transparent and therefore ideally suited for new lighting concepts. Special sheets can be used to selectively diffuse the dazzling light of energy-efficient LEDs, for example, to create pleasant, evenly dispersed interior lighting.

The plastic sheets are produced at Bayer by means of environmentally friendly processes and can be recycled at the end of their service life.
