Leverkusen/Brussels, January 9, 2017- Bayer has appointed a new head of its EU Liaison Office in Brussels, Belgium, effective February 1, 2017. Volker Koch-Achelpöhler (52), currently Director General of the German Crop Protection and Fertilizer Association (IVA) in Frankfurt, will take over this role and represent Bayer's position on all political issues at the various EU institutions.

Prior to his almost 11-year service with the IVA, Koch-Achelpöhler had already worked in Brussels as an industry association representative. He therefore has many years of experience providing policy advice, especially in respect of agricultural policy.

After more than eight years in Brussels, his predecessor as head of the EU Liaison Office, Bernd Halling (47), will transfer to Bayer's headquarters in Leverkusen, where he will head the Corporate Policy and Strategy unit that is responsible for the company's global positioning on political lobbying issues. Both will report to the head of Public and Governmental Affairs within Communications and Public Affairs.
