BayWa : to acquire speciality trader Premium Crops Ltd

BayWa AG intends to strengthen its trading activities in the UK by their UK subsidiary Cefetra Ltd acquiring the speciality trader Premium Crops Ltd, subject to satisfaction of completion conditions. The acquisition is part of the BayWa Agri Supply & Trade (BAST) business unit's strategy to enhance its specialties products and services. Premium Crops is a leading UK specialist crop contracting and supply business whose focus is on sustainable, traceable, and fully risk-managed supply chains for niche oilseeds and grains. Until now, it has been part of the American group Technology Crops LLC.

'The acquisition of Premium Crops is part of our specialisation strategy in agricultural trade. We will be able to further diversify our portfolio in the speciality segments, and offer both the farmers in the UK and our customers in Europe and neighbouring markets an even wider range,' Klaus Josef Lutz, Chief Executive Officer of BayWa AG, said.

Growing numbers of customers and suppliers are placing greater emphasis on long-term partnerships. 'In light of rising demand from the food and feedstuffs industry for specialities, we regard trading in this area as a promising opportunity' he added.

In 2015, Cefetra Ltd acquired the British grain trader Wessex Grain.
